July 2010

07/2010. Audi's new A5 Sportback

Photography in Central Hong Kong is always challenging with parking restrictions, traffic jams, police and security guards harassing you, not to mention 34 degree heat with no shade plus Central reclamation construction vehicles roaring past every 10 minutes. This one had to be a guerilla shoot

03/2010. RGB - Pro Photographer's night

Hong Kong had no regular social evening where pro photographers could get together and showcase their latest work, hence the RGB [Red, Green and Blue pixels or Regular Gathering with Beer].

California based photojournalist Dave Paul Morris showed us assignments for the LA Times, SF Chronicle and Time. Paul Hilton's powerful work on the slaughter of whales, sharks and mobula rays was followed by Alex Hofford's video footage from these slaughters that are wiping out entire species.

Pro photographers and associated industry colleagues are welcome to these inspirational nights of learning and sharing. Meetings are held on the last monday of every month. Email me to be put on the email list.

03/2010. Hong Kong Rugby Sevens

Best sporting event of the year with action in the stands matching the action on the pitch. Last year I had switched back to Nikon and, looking down the line of photographers, it was around 50/50 now for white lenses [Canon] versus black [Nikon]. It used to be 90/10 to the white.

02/2010. East Java

To celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and mum's 70th birthday, we went on a photography trek to East Java, Indonesia, as my father is a keen photographer, taking in Mount Bromo and Borobudur.

01/2010. Oman photography stock shoot

2010 saw the 40th anniversary of the present Sultan's reign over the Sultanate of Oman. So with temperatures hovering around a cool 25 degrees - it was time to exit Hong Kong and go shoot some middle eastern stock photography. We travelled via boat, train, plane, camel and 4-wheel drive from Sur up to Muscat and on to Musandam on the Straits of Hormuz. Oman is still beautiful and unspoilt by tourism, but with development happening fast...how long will it stay that way? After two weeks, it was back to the hazy and polluted skies of Hong Kong.

11/2009. HKAerial.com takes off

We waited for a perfect but rare Hong Kong blue-sky day... and waited. ..and waited. We finally took off from the Peninsula hotel rooftop in November 2009. Our pilot was Andrew McArther of Hong Kong's Heliservices. The shoot encompassed aerial photography for the Sai Kung peninsula including Clearwater Bay, Marina Cove, Silverstrand, Lobster Bay, Che Keng Tuk, Tai Wan and many other areas.  Did we get your house?
